CURRENT AFFAIRS OF  5th MARCH, 2023

  1. Observed on 5 March, the International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness plays a role to promote better awareness and understanding about how disarmament efforts contribute to enhance peace and security, preventing and ending armed conflicts, and curbing human suffering caused by weapons.
  2. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) organized a two-day National Conference on Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi from 2-3 March, 2023.
  3. The ‘Catch the Rain 2023’ campaign was introduced by President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi on 4 March, 2023. The campaign’s central idea is the sustainability of drinking water sources.
  4. 20 additional judges have been elevated as permanent judges in Allahabad, Bombay, Madras and Delhi High Courts, on 3 March, 2023.
  5. Jishnu Barua has become the new Chairperson of the power regulator Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).
  6. India and Australia on 2 March, 2023 signed a Framework Mechanism for Mutual Recognition of Qualifications that will help ease the mobility of students and professionals between the two countries.

  8. World’s first 200-meter-long Bamboo Crash Barrier has been installed on the Vani-Warora Highway, Vidarbha, Maharashtra.
  9. The International Yoga Festival 2023 being held in Rishikesh from 1 March to 7 March, 2023 is the main attraction of Bharat Parv this year. 
  10. Reliance Jio has climbed up to number two rank, up from fifth place last year in a list of the top 10 strongest telecom brands in the world.
  11. Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh has been honoured with the Player-of-the-Year award by the Asian Chess Federation for clinching the gold medal with a record-breaking score of 9/11 in the 44th Chess Olympiad at Mahabalipuram last year.

  16. Former Union Minister Satyabrata Mookherjee passed away in Kolkata on 3 March, 2023 at the age of 90.
